Search Help

The yespages Simple and Advanced Search boxes allow you to search for home and work addresses and phone numbers for residents of the United States, as well as for other information people may have chosen to list (such as email addresses, cell phone numbers, resumes, etc.) . Businesses and their information are also listed. The Simple Search form will be effective for many of your search needs (people only). If you want to access additional search parameters, use the Advanced Search form by clicking on the Advanced Search tab.

Simple Search (People Only)

The Simple Search form will be effective for the many of your search needs. To minimize the number of results you get, try to include the state, at a minimum, and city or zip code if you know it.

Simple Search Tips

  1. First Name
    1. Searches use as many letters as you type and “wild card” the rest. That is, a search will return all results that begin with the letters you type. So if you type “Jim”, then “Jim”, “Jimmy” and all other results that being with the letters of “Jim” will be returned.
    2. To narrow down the results you see, type as many letters as you are sure of with the correct spelling.
  2. Last Name
    1. If the last name is common, include information in the First Name and/or other fields to improve chances of a match.
    2. If the last name contains a space (e.g. La Rosa), try it without the space.
    3. If the last name is hyphenated (e.g. Covey-Jones), try using one of the names, without the hyphen.
  3. City or zip/Postal code
    1. Please check the spelling of the city. To improve the odds of matching, try entering the entire city name (e.g. Mount Vernon rather than Mt Vernon).
    2. If your search returns no results, try leaving the "City or zip code" field blank. The person may be listed under a larger neighboring town.
    3. If you know the zip or postal code, use it instead of a city name. This minimizes chances for spelling errors or variations in city names.
    4. Narrow a state search by using a city or zip code with a state.
    5. For big cities, a zip code narrows down the search better than a city name.
  4. State
    1. Begin typing the state name (not the two letter abbreviation), and a list of matching states will appear. You can select a state from the list or simply type the state name or abbreviation in the field.
    2. If you would like to search nationwide, leave all location fields blank.

Advanced Search

With Yespages’ advanced search, you can find people by entering separate but limited bits of their information you may know. For example, if you met someone at a party, but only remember their first name, where their company is, and perhaps the first three digits of their cell number, you’d be able to search for them by specifying just that information in your search query.

Yespages’ advanced search allows you to search using home and work phone numbers, cell phone and email address, and home and work address info, in addition to the name of the person or business who owns the phone number and the associated address. You may also ask it to expand the universe of first and last name searches by selecting the “By Sound” box underneath either of these. When one of these boxes is selected, yespages will search for names that match, are similar to, or may sound like the name you entered.

Advanced Search Tips

  1. You can do a reverse search by entering all or part of the ten digit telephone number to find a matching listing. Use this method if you have a phone number and want to find the name and/or address associated with the phone number. Obviously, the more digits you know the more likely you’ll find a reasonable number of possible matches.
  2. Enter all or part of the email address to find a matching listing. The more of an email address you know the more likely you’ll find a reasonable number of possible matches.
  3. Enter the address into the fields provided, including the house number, street name and city state or zip code.
    1. There is a limit to the number of results that can be displayed, so it is best to narrow your search as much as possible by providing as much accurate information as possible.
  4. For the state field, begin typing the state name (not the two letter abbreviation), and a list of matching states will appear. You can select a state from the list or simply type the state name or abbreviation in the field. If you would like to search nationwide, leave all location fields blank.
  5. Narrow your search by using a city or zip code with a state.
  6. For big cities, a zip code narrows down the search better than a city name.
  7. When searching with a Company Name, you are more likely to find matching listings if you omit words like “Company” and “Incorporated” and function words like “and”.

If No Results are Found

  1. The address information may be too specific. Try removing the street type (e.g. Street, Road, Rd, Ave, etc), or removing the directional indicators from the street name (e.g. NE, SE, W, etc).
  2. Try a wider search by entering less information, like only a last name and state. You may also want to try selecting the "By Sound" checkboxes on the advanced search form to search for names that are similar to, or may sound like the name you entered.
  3. Do not use apartment information in your search (apartment type or number).
  4. The keyword you typed may not be recognized. Try again using a different word to describe the type of business.
  5. Something may have been misspelled. Check for spelling mistakes and search again.

Claiming, Adding, Controlling Access to Your Listing

How it Works

Yespages.com users can add and maintain their cell phone number, email address, and other information to allow people to contact them directly (or through the use of yespages private text or email messages, as described in “Internal Messaging”). They can also carefully control access to any single piece of their data in any one of three different ways.

Before adding your listing and any associated information to yespages, first check to see if it is there, as yespages already has the publicly available whitepages information. If you search for information and find that it is in fact there already, then you just need to claim it. Then you will have control over each piece of information and the type of access you’d like to allow for each data item, and whether or not it is displayed to others. You can, add, modify, and delete information. It’s your information, and now it’s yours to control (and, if you’d like, get paid for). You claim your information if it’s already listed and you have not claimed it yet by searching for it and then clicking on “UPDATE IT NOW?” at the bottom of the search results box.

If your listing does not exist yet at yespages, then create it by selecting the “Create Account” link at the top of any page and filling in any information you want to make available.

Controlling access to your information

Each piece of your information – for example, telephone number, cell phone number, email address, even your street address – can easily be protected by you in one of three ways:

  1. Password. You can create a password that is used to protect any single piece of information. You may create as many passwords as you’d like, and apply them any way you want. This is useful if you’d like to grant temporary access to several people to, say, your resume, or medical information, or driving directions to your house. Or, you just might want to create something short and easy to remember that you apply to your cell phone number, for example, because it’s easier to give out and remember than the ten digit number.
  2. Question. Creating a question that only certain people are likely to know is a useful way to protect sensitive information. For example, you may conclude that anyone who knows your dog’s name from childhood is allowed to have access to your email address. After creating the question as a rule, you simply apply to your email address. Like the other two access methods, it is easy to change the question if it is not providing the access you had hoped for.
  3. Charge. When you call directory information, the phone company charges you. But they are charging for access to your information. But now, through yespages, you can apply a charge for access to any piece of your information and you will get half of the proceeds. Just set up a charge amount and apply the associated rule to your cell phone number, for example, or any other piece of your information. You can set any charge amount you want to when you create a charge rule. If someone wants to get in touch with you enough, they’ll probably pay.

You set access rules under My Account; once there, click on the Access Rules tab in My Admin. Then you can apply the rule(s) by selecting from the dropdown next to any piece of information you find and want to protect under the My Data tabs in My Account.

Sending and scheduling messages and voicelets

For any phone number, cell number, or email address you find via a yespages search, yespages allows users to easily send a message to a selected destination by just clicking a button. Messages can be sent immediately, scheduled for delivery for one time in the future, or set up to be sent repeatedly according to a schedule you specify. To send a message, simply look up someone via the search box; when the search results box displays, click on the “send message” button to the right of any phone number or email address to send a text, email, and/or a voice message to the associated destination. Note that if the lock icon indicates that the information is protected (the lock is closed), you need to click on the lock and correctly answer the question, give the password, or pay the charge to be able to see that piece of information.

You may enter any combination, or all three, of the possible destinations.

"Voicing" is a useful way to send a quick, one-way, voice message now or at a later time (e.g., if it’s late at night and you don’t want to wake a friend).

Typed messages can be sent as texts to a cell phone, or read out loud to any phone. Choose which by checking the appropriate select box at the bottom of step 1 (“Destination”). You may select either text or voice, or you may select both. If you select both boxes when the destination is a cell number, your message will be sent as both a written text and also read aloud.

Classifieds

Yespages also allows any user to easily, and for free, list anything for purchase and sale, and to easily browse for such these lsitings by individual address, building, street, zip, city, or state. See what your neighbors are selling, and easily list your own stuff for sale. Yespages can function as your online yard sale, which never ends. Browse these yard sales, near, far, and of any size, 24 hours a day. To search the classifieds, click “Classified” at the top of any page. To post an item for purchase or sale, go to the classified section under My Admin, which is under the My Account link at the top of any page.
